Generac 6853 30-Amp HomeLink Pre-Wired Manual Transfer Switch, PIB, and Cord (8 Circuits) New

Generac's HomeLink™ manual transfer switch is compatible with generators starting at 5kW with a 30-Amp L14-30 receptacle. The HomeLink™ manual transfer switch can safely deliver power to 8-10 of your most essential circuits, allowing you to back-up your refrigerator and freezer, gas furnaces, lights, small kitchen appliances and well pump. Featuring our innovative OneTouch transfer button, HomeLink™ allows for quick changes between utility and generator power for ease of use during an outage. OneTouch also features two status lights to indicate whether utility or generator power is in use. HomeLink™ manual transfer switches are easier to install and maintain than ever before and can be upgraded for automatic functionality with home standby generators up to 11kW by simply changing the original controller, eliminating the need for a new transfer switch. This versatile transfer switch allows you to directly power hardwired appliances such as a gas furnace, well pump, and electric water heater. These vital appliances cannot be powered with extension cords, meaning HomeLink™ is a necessity when utility power is lost. Installation by an electrician recommended.

*Note: Please make sure you have consulted with an electrician to verify the manual transfer switch is in fact the model and specification necessary for your situation. Doing so will help you avoid returning the item and incurring a 50% restock fee in addition to charges for shipping.

Confusing, but works great

Had a professional electrician install this unit, and he did so very quickly. Several of the 15 amp circuit breakers on the unit had to be replaced with 20, as that's what the house circuits were using, but that's ok. Also, he said the plastic hose that enclosed the wiring was 'garbage' and he installed metal pipe, along with several more, and a metal box for the wiring from the house to the unit. We also struggled in getting the 'Utility' light to come on once all the connections were complete, so we called the Generac help line and - no joke - they would NOT assist us unless we were a dealer... SO, we re-read the manual and it states you need to use the included metal rod to rotate the selector unit inside the device to the up position, so we did this and VOILA! Everything started playing as it's supposed to. I powered up my generator, connected it, and the generator light turned on after flipping the switch. Even the electrician said (more than once) that this was an excellent, well-built unit, and well worth the money. His boss also said if he'd had to order it, he would have paid more - so folks, but it from HERE - FactoryPure - you won't get a better price. Finally - I installed this unit outdoors, near the electrical panel, and even though it's not specifically designed for that, it's still in a place where weather can't get to it (rain, snow, etc.). However, since it has exposed breakers, I'm going to build some sort of locking enclosure for it with an easy-access front panel to both further protect it from wind and dust, and from curious hands... :)

Pretty good transfer switch

I gave a 4 star rating because you have to take off the cover to transfer power
from line to generator. other wise nice switch box that can be upgraded to automatic in the future.

Great system BUT….

I will definitely recommend this option if you are wanting to save A LOT of money vs a whole home standby generator. Only negative I have was I had to replace the 30 AMP breaker that came with it. Apparently it was a bad breaker and would not stay in the “ON” position. Replaced the breaker and system works perfect. Minus the breaker issue I had, it’s a great option.
