I was surprised to find residue gas and oil in this "never used" unit. Closer examination showed a crack in the plastic face plate. The generator runs fine and the hour meter was on zero when I received it. I'm guessing the unit was previously sold and the original owner returned it after noticing the damaged face plate. I called Generac thinking I could have a new faceplate shipped. They first tried to tell me the damage occurred with the shipper and I should file a claim with them. I explained the box was in good shape and I doubted the shipper was at fault. The Generac rep then stated the face plate was integrated into the unit itself and could not simply be replaced, and proceeded to provide some local Generac repair locations where I could take it for warranty evaluation. Since the crack appears mainly cosmetic, I'm undecided on pursuing the repair further. I guess the lessen learned is that there is a reason it's being sold as "Open Box".
The generator works great, came in better condition than I thought it would. Transaction was very smooth and customer service follow up was nice to see.
Great so far
