GENMAX GM10500iETC Tri-Fuel Inverter Generator 8500W/10500W 50 Amp Remote Start New

A word of note : I thought at first I had a problem with the electric start.
But, After trouble shooting I found the issue. When I was using propane, The unit would not start using the electric start button or remote start. It would crank then time out but, It would start with the pull cord and run great. I found out that the after market fuel gauge I purchased for the propane tank was inadequate for a generator of this size. (10500 Watt). The fuel gauge was the type sold commonly for a barbecue grill.
I like the quality of the manufacture and all the extras that come with the generator. You can tell that a lot of planning has gone into this product design with the customer in mind. So far I’m very pleased with this purchase and Factory Pure.

Basically, the Genmax GM10500iETC a nice generator! It exhibits very Stable frequency output (as one would expect for an inverter generator). The output voltage varied a bit with load, but this wasn't much and was largely as expected. The output voltage was about 248V with No load. 241V at 16A (call it half load or 3.86KW) and about 234V at Full load (30 Amps or roughly 7KW). This was while running on natural gas. I did not try propane or gasoline. The generator is rated at 6.8KW max continuous load while running on NG so it met (and slightly exceeded) this spec. I looked at the output on an oscilloscope and it was indeed a 60Hz Sine wave. However, under load the was some relatively small glitches in the waveform at the zero crossings. Not too bad, and none of the loads I used seemed to be bothered by this. I primarily used my EV (Tesla Model 3) as a load as I can easily change the load in 1 Amp increments this way, and Tesla does a pretty good job to make sure their cars "look like" a resistive load to the power source. But… I'm not sure if the glitch at the zero crossings was due to the Tesla or the Generator? (Something I’ll have to look into further.) I tried some other, smaller loads while back feeding my house. I was only able to get to about 3KW via back-feeding the house, and everything ran without any issues (lights, pumps, computers, other electronics, even an older Plasma TV that would occasionally misbehave while running on my old, non-inverter, generator). I only have one minor complaint. GenMax provides a NEMA 5-15 plug with the ground and neutral tied together (for bonding the neutral to the ground at the generator). This sort of worked, but it wasn't reliable. The outlets on the generator you would use to attach this plug are a couple of NEMA 5-20 outlets. They are both GFI outlets. This doesn't work too well. GFI outlets work by "looking" for a balance between the "hot" and the "neutral". If there is any imbalance, the circuit breaker trips off and disconnects both the "Hot" and the "Neutral". So… if you have any current in the bonding plug (really only take about 5 milliamps or so) the GFI outlet trips and your bonding is disconnected. So... This is not a reliable way to make this bonding. A similar plug on the NEMA 14-30L or the NEMA 14-50 would be required. This gave me a few headaches while charging my Tesla as the car continuously checks for about 120V between one of the "Hot" leads and ground and shuts down charging if this voltage is out of range. When the GFI outlet trips, car charging would stop. And my load testing was interrupted. This would not happen immediately but would typically occur 5 to 20 minutes after charging started (making it challanging to figure out what was going on). When I connected the ground and the neutral on the NEMA 14-30L, with a home-made plug wired to achieve this bonding, everything worked well and ran for hours without any issues. So... I would say it's a nice generator! The only remaining question in my mind is: How long will this generator last? And only time will answer this question. So far… It’s and excellent generator IMHO.
