I purchased a generator from FactoryPure after Hurricane Ida passed through Louisiana. Customer service was very helpful in helping me get exactly what I wanted in a generator. I ran the generator a while but have not hooked it up to the house just yet. I will update the post once I test it completely.
I received the Gen. quick and I didn't get to use it yet. When I use it I will write a new review.
Received the Champion 12/15KW Generator as scheduled from FactoryPure. It arrived in good shape with Tri-Fuel Option installed and checked out by FactoryPure. Hooked up the propane and it started within a few seconds and powered the entire house ( 2 - 5Ton HVAC units running, Microwave running, as well as lights, fans with power to spare) during the checkout. Pleased with product and initial performance. Experience with FactoryPure was very good.
The communication and delivery was smooth. I received the generator with a tri fuel kit installed. Please note that the kit voids the warranty and the warranty will have to be purchased separately if you are to have one. The generator fired right up and mine came with oil in the case. I can only assume that the tri fuel installers needed to test the operation on installation of the kit. I followed the break in instructions. Getting this generator to 50% load is difficult without a house generator hookup. Oil changed per the instructions. After the electricians installed my whole home 50 amp inlet box, I ran both AC's in my home and several other things as well. I did not try the dryer because I was already almost at max of the Champion's power meter. All is as expected and I would purchase again! Thanks!!!
This generator is a beast ... a truly Big Friggin Generator! ;) To be honest, I can't share a whole lot yet since, aside from starting it a few times just testing things out, the only time I've used it so far was for 6 or so hours last week when we were having some electrical work done so the power from the road was cut.
During that period we were only running a handful of things off extension cords so the generator wasn't even breaking a sweat ... but it ran great, was easy to start, and despite it's obvious heft was pretty easy to roll around to the front of the house and then back into the carport when I was done.
The reason for the elec work was to have a main disconnect installed, allowing me to fully (though manually) transfer from utility power to generator for everything in our home without worry of back-feeding the grid. I'll update again once we've tested the generator in this capacity, but I have no doubt it is going to perform just as well under an actual load.
It may be early, but so far I am extremely pleased with this purchase. The one 'negative' I'd add is that I wish this model had the option (out of the box) to also run on LPG. But at the end of the day, if I have to keep plenty of gas cans around, so be it.
Update: Sept 2021
Being in Southwest MS, I thought it might be a good idea to finish up the work that was needed to hook up the generator to the house prior to Hurricane Ida moving through. So I did just that ... about 24 hours before she hit. :o Our power went out just before 1AM the night she came through and stayed off for just over 3 days. After the first day of running, I shut it down, let it cool off, and changed the oil to some quality 5w30 full synthetic. After that, it was only a matter of keeping gas in it.
We found that the generator could easily power all our lights and appliances (including 1 fridge and 2 upright freezers) as well as the hot water heater and two mini-splits in an addition we just completed. We could use our dryer, microwave, toaster oven, even our induction stove with no issue as long as the water heater wasn't running at the same time (which I would just flip off if we planned to run any of the above). In fact, while it did pull a pretty good load on startup, it would even run our central a/c!!! Aside from running multiple hi-amperage devices at once, the only thing I found that it would not run was the heat / furnace for our central unit. It's all electric so when the heating elements kicked on, it threw the 50A breaker on the generator. Certainly can't complain about that!
Having put it through some real use, I am even more pleased than before!
